Exciting News: Garlic Head is partnering with Hungry Harvest!

I am thrilled to announce I am officially an ambassador with the fantastic company Hungry Harvest! Are you familiar?

(Side note: if you don’t feel like reading this entire post, just watch this video for a great overview)

Hungry Harvest believes that no food should go to waste. Here is the mission statement from their website:

“We source, hand pack and securely deliver delicious boxes of rescued produce on a weekly and bi-weekly basis. For every delivery, we empower a family in need by providing access to affordable fruits & veggies through our Produce in a SNAP program and through donations to local community organizations. To date we have delivered over 3,000,000 pounds, provided access to 50,000 pounds of reduced-cost produce and donated over 500,000 pounds more to our partner organizations!”

Do you think this sounds like a CSA (community supported agriculture)? You’re on the right track! Basically, Hungry Harvest provide nutritious options at a very low cost to consumers, along with the convenience of a weekly delivery (so you don’t even need to go pick it up).

What does “rescued” mean, anyway? Hungry Harvest defines it as: “fruits and vegetables that are freshly harvested, but would otherwise be thrown away. They may be discarded because of aesthetic imperfections (think misshapen eggplants) or simply due to grower surpluses.”

Sometimes grocery stores will turn away an entire shipment of produce just because it was over-ordered. I know, I think it’s a waste too! That’s why I align so wholeheartedly with the Hungry Harvest mission and am beyond excited to share it with you.

The harvest boxes are curated weekly with a different mix of fresh foods (it varies seasonally). You can customize to your likes and dislikes as well (sorry, artichokes, but you are on my “Never Send”  list).

You can skip deliveries whenever necessary at no extra charge. I order the smallest size since I live alone, but even the “Mini” provides a great variety. There are also organic options!

Here is an example of a weekly email (customized for a veg head like me):

They offer recipe ideas too! A lot of my blog inspiration comes straight from these!

Have I used enough exclamation points yet?

Not into just produce? Every week you have the option for additional “add-on” items. These range from bread, jams, spreads, eggs, and even coffee. Such high quality items, but at lower price points (not to mention the added bonus of knowing you’re contributing to a more sustainable food supply).

One more quote from the website: “For every delivery, empower a family in need by providing access to affordable fruits & veggies through our Produce in a SNAP program and through donations to local community organizations. To date we have delivered over 3,000,000 pounds, provided access to 50,000 pounds of reduced-cost produce and donated over 500,000 pounds more to our partner organizations!”

This brand got their start on Shark Tank and have grown exponentially since then. Right now they deliver in Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, South Jersey, and South Florida. They’re expanding quickly though, so may be in your next of the wood very soon.

One more fun fact: if you sign up now with the promo code “Garlichead,” you’ll get a $5.00 discount on your first box! For more information please check out their website.

Happy harvesting!
