Description
This warming Classic Hot Toddy recipe will warm you from the inside out! Lemon, honey (or maple syrup), and ginger are perfect complements if you’re feeling under the weather. Add a shot of whiskey and you’re all set for the best winter cocktail.

- 3/4 cup water
- 2–3 tsp maple syrup (honey if not vegan)
- 1/2 TBS freshly grated ginger, or 1/2 tsp powdered ginger
- 1 shot whiskey (1 1/2 oz or about 1/4 cup), see notes for substitute
- 2 TBS lemon juice
- Lemon round, for serving
- Cinnamon stick, for serving
- Star anise for serving, optional
Instructions
- Heat water in a teakettle or small pan on the stove. Once warmed, pour into a heatproof glass or mug. Stir in honey or maple syrup to dissolve. Add grated ginger or powdered ginger.
- Top glass with shot of whiskey and lemon juice, stirring once more to incorporate. Garnish with a lemon round, a cinnamon stick, and optional star anise. Enjoy immediately!
Notes
For a nonalcoholic version, sub an equal amount of brewed ginger tea.
