2cupssliced fruitsuch as pears, apples, and orange slices
1bottle full bodied red winelike a blend or a Rioja, see notes for nonalcoholic version
3TBSpomegranate arils
¼-1/2cupsugarorganic cane if possible
1TBSapple cider vinegar
Cognac or brandyoptional
Pinchof salt
Sparkling waterfor serving
Instructions
Wash and slice all fruit. Set aside. Pour wine into a large pitcher and add fruit. Stir with a long-handled spoon. Add sugar and vinegar and stir again. Add cognac/brandy if using, and pinch of salt.
Let sangria sit in the fridge for at least an hour to help flavor meld. Serve topped with sparkling water. Sangria will for up to three days, covered in the fridge.
Notes
For a nonalcoholic version, sub wine with 8 cups apple cider.
