Ingredients Needed for a 3-Ingredient Dog Cake
- 1 small sweet potato
- 2 TBS raw unsalted peanut butter, divided
- 1 TBS unsweetened plain greek yogurt, optional for frosting
- ⅓ cup cooked brown rice
- ¼ cup cooked and unseasoned shredded chicken (optional)
How do you make a cake for a dog with three ingredients?
- Poke some holes in the sweet potato and microwave it for 6-8 total minutes, stopping at the halfway point to flip.
- Remove the sweet potato from the microwave and let it cool. Use a fork or spoon to scrape the orange flesh out. It should yield around ½ cup.
- Mix one TBS peanut butter into the sweet potato mash. Next, add in cooked brown rice. Add in cooked chicken, if using. Stir to combine and place on a plate, patting into a cake shape. The mixture will be rather firm. Let cool completely in the fridge for about 15 minutes. It will firm up more.
- Remove from fridge and "frost" with remaining 1 TBS peanut butter OR 1 TBS unsweetened plain greek yogurt.

Serving Suggestions
Do not let your dog eat this entire recipe if they are not used to these foods.
The nutrition facts listed below are for one full recipe. I feed my 75 lb. dog ½ of this recipe at a time as to not disrupt his eating pattern. You may want to adjust this if you have a smaller or larger pet.
Remember to never substitute any of these ingredients without first checking their safety. For example - almond butter is toxic to dogs, so that swap does not work.
3-Ingredient Dog Cake
Ingredients
- 1 sweet potato small
- 2 TBS raw unsalted peanut butter divided
- ⅓ cup cooked brown rice or oatmeal
- ¼ cup cooked and unseasoned shredded chicken optional
- 1 TBS unsweetened plain greek yogurt optional
Instructions
- To cook the sweet potato, wash it and poke a few holes with a fork. Place on a microwave-safe plate and microwave on high for 6-8 total minutes, stopping at the halfway point to flip. Alternativly, roast your sweet potato in a 400 degree oven for 45 minutes.
- Remove the sweet potato from the microwave once done and carefully cut open with a knife to let the steam escape (to cool it down). Use a fork or spoon to scrape the orange flesh from inside the potato. It should yield around one half cup.
- Mix one TBS peanut butter into the sweet potato mash. Next add in cooked brown rice. Add in cooked chicken if using. Stir to combine and place on a plate, patting into a cake shape. The mixture will be rather firm. Let cool completely in the fridge for about 15 minutes. It will firm up more there.
- Remove from fridge and "frost" with remaining 1 TBS peanut butter OR 1 TBS unsweetened plain greek yogurt.

Five ingredients are not three ingredients

Hi Linda! Greek yogurt frosting and shredded chicken are optional if you want to give your dog an extra treat. The cake works just as well without them 🙂 Thanks for reading!

Hi I am making my first doggy birthday cake and this recipe looks delicious and I think he will truly enjoy it. I want to make sure that I followed all the steps and wanted to verify with you this cake is not cooked, just the ingredients?

Hi Debbie, thank you so much for reading and commenting! Great question, yes, this cake does not need to be baked. Baked goods can upset my dog's system so this is fully cooled in the fridge. It will firm up there but will still have a very soft texture (easier for the dog to digest). I give my dog 1/2 of the recipe to start out. I hope this helps, and happy birthday to your dog!
