How to Tell If a Peach is Ripe + What to Do

The best way to assess whether or not a peach is ready to eat is to give it a slight squeeze in your palm. There should be a small amount of give but it should not break apart in your hand. It’s not recommended to touch every peach at the store (because ew), so use your best judgement with that!

A less germ-filled way to do this is to smell the fruit at the top. A ripe peach will have a strong, fresh scent.

Stuck with some unripe fruit? This is not a bad thing! To speed up the ripening process, place your peaches in a brown paper bag alongside a banana or apple. These emit ethylene, which is easily transmitted in the air.
