Strawberry Limeade (Cocktail Option)

This simple sweet/tart Strawberry Limeade will be your favorite refreshing drink! A perfect pair to classic cookout foods, it’s bright, tangy, and easily customized. Topped with mint for a cooling spring or summer beverage!

Nothing says summer like a refreshing glass of freshly-squeezed lemonade. Today’s recipe is a slight twist on this classic, substituting limes for lemons and adding fresh strawberries for a bright pop of color. Like many simple drink recipes (such as margaritas), this strawberry limeade does not require many steps.

What is in Strawberry Limeade?

  • Limes
  • Strawberries
  • Lemons
  • Sugar, added to taste
  • A pinch of salt
  • Mint
  • Seltzer water, to top
  • Vodka, optional

How to Make Strawberry Limeade (with a cocktail option)

  1. Juice 5 large limes and 3 large lemons
  2. Combine lime juice, lime wedges, lemon juice, cut strawberries, and salt into a cocktail shaker. Shake to combine. Add some mint to the shaker and shake again.
  3. Serve! Strain equal amounts of the strawberry limeade syrup into four short, ice-filled glasses. Add seltzer to top off, along with 1 optional shot of vodka.

How to Serve Strawberry Limeade

For added lime flavor, zest some of the remaining lime peels and rim the glasses with this zest + 1 tsp sea salt. I like to garnish glasses with a lime round and a sprig of mint. You could also serve with more strawberries.

How to Customize this Recipe

  • Use lemons in place of limes for a traditional strawberry lemonade.
  • Swap the strawberries for another small fruit, like cherries or blueberries
  • Add freshly grated ginger and top with ginger beer instead of seltzer.
  • Instead of vodka, try adding gin or tequila.

Description

This healthy Strawberry Limeade will be your favorite summer refresher! A perfect pair to classic cookout foods, it’s sweet, tangy, and easily customized. Topped with mint for a cooling summer beverage!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large limes, as fresh as you can find
  • 3 large lemons
  • 1/2 cup organic cane sugar
  • 6 large strawberries, stems removed and sliced
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 bunch of mint (about 1 cup), with a few sprigs reserved (no need to de-stem)
  • 1 bottle soda water or seltzer
  • 4 shots of vodka, optional
  • Ice for serving

Instructions

  1. Juice 5 of the limes. Cut the remaining lime into wedges. Juice all of the lemons.
  2. Combine lime juice, lime wedges, lemon juice, cut strawberries, and salt into a cocktail shaker (or a large sealable jar). Shake to combine. Crush the mint leaves in your hands to release some of the oils and add to the shaker. Shake again for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Add a few ice cubes to 4 small glasses. For added flavor, zest some of the remaining lime peels and rim the glasses with zest. Strain equal amounts of the strawberry limeade syrup into each glass. It should be 1/4 – 1/3 cup per glass. Add seltzer to top off and to taste (be sure to not water it down too much). If desired, add 1 shot of vodka to each glass and stir to combine.
